How we pick

Our Methodology

By Bikram Nath · Updated August 2026

Every guide on AUPicks is researched from published manufacturer specifications, expert reviews and Amazon.com.au buyer feedback — not hands-on testing. We say this plainly because most buying-guide sites imply lab work that never happened. Our value is different: careful desk research against Australian conditions, and verification that every product we recommend actually exists, as described, on Amazon.com.au.

Where our information comes from

  • Published manufacturer specifications — capacity, power draw, dimensions, materials, stated compatibility.
  • Expert reviews — published assessments from reviewers who have used the product.
  • Amazon.com.au buyer feedback — what Australian buyers report after purchase.

We weigh those sources against what matters locally: Australia's climate and UV intensity, 230 V mains standards, and the consumer guarantees of Australian Consumer Law.

In our published guides, every product link is verified — or the product is removed

Every product in our published buying guides links to a specific, verified Amazon.com.au product page for the exact model named in the guide. If we cannot verify that a product has a live, matching Amazon.com.au listing, we remove it from the guide entirely — we do not link to a search-results page, and we do not guess at a listing. A shorter, verified guide beats a longer one padded with products you can't actually buy.

Being precise about the scope: in August 2026 we removed 236 guides that could not meet this standard, keeping 31. An older set of pages remains reachable by direct link but is excluded from our index and from llms.txt; those pages still contain unverified links and are being retired. If you land on one, treat it as archived rather than recommended.

How rankings are decided

Rankings are determined purely by product merit, Australian buyer reviews, value, and suitability for local conditions. Within each guide we weigh:

  • Specification fit for Australian conditions, as documented by the manufacturer.
  • Buyer feedback volume and rating on Amazon.com.au.
  • Value for money within the guide's price bracket.

What we don't do

  • No hands-on testing. We do not physically test products, and no guide claims we do.
  • No paid placements or sponsored content. No brand can pay to appear or to rank higher.
  • No invented claims. We only state certifications, standards or warranty terms we can trace to a published source.

Updates

Guides are re-checked periodically rather than on a fixed schedule: listings are re-verified against Amazon.com.au, and products that are no longer available or verifiable are removed.

How we make money

AUPicks participates in the Amazon Associates Australia programme. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The rate is the same whichever product you choose, so it cannot influence our rankings.
